Carla was born in Las Vegas, NV and moved to Oklahoma City where she finished high school and college. Carla attended Oklahoma City University where she was awarded the Petree Art Scholarship and received my Bachelor of Fine Arts.
After college, Carla moved to her Grandparents house in Taos, NM and continued painting. She then enrolled in Graduate courses at the University of New Mexico and went on to study at the Taos Institute of Arts and the Fechin Institute.
Carla has studied under a number of different artists; among them being David Leffel, Michelle Cooke, Sherrie McGraw, Gregg Kreutz, Louis Tedesco and Forensic Artist, Betty Pat Gatliff.
Carla met Louis Tedesco, a classical artist, who painted mainly in the Chiaroscuro method, used by Remembrandt, Caravaggion and other artists of that era. She spent 2 years studying with Louis almost daily. He brought an excitement to this type of work. Carla was also influenced by Gregg Kreutz, who told her that he trusted her to use her sensitivity with strong authority.
